S2 Netball Tournament with Wick
The S2 netball teams had a friendly tournament with Wick High School the girls got to play lots of games and had great fun.
On Wednesday 22nd of November Thurso High Schools Senior netball team travelled to Aberdeen to play Robert Gordons College. Thurso faced a very strong side and were slow to start, finishing the first half down by 7 points. Thurso went into the second half determined and went on to win the match 31-23 and move on to the next round of the Scottish cup.
On Tuesday 26th September Thurso High School hosted the first round of the Scottish Cup. Team from Fortrose Academy, Anderson High in Shetland and Nicholson Institute in Stornoway travelled to Thurso for a day of netball. Thurso got off to great start with a comfortable win against Nicholson Institute, then suffered a close defeat to Fortrose Academy losing by 3. The girls had a final game against a very strong Anderson High team, the battled till the end but unfortunately didn’t have enough left to secure a win. It was a fantastic day with over 40 girls participating in netball, Thurso High girls now wait to find out if they qualify for the bronze or silver plate for their next round of matches in December. A special Thanks to Tesco who donated water and bananas for the match.
On Monday 25th September Nicholson institute travelled to Thurso High School to our S3 netball team in the first round of the Scottish cup. This was Thurso’s first match of the season and the girls took a while to get used to playing together again. However, they worked very hard right to the end and showed great work rate across the court and managed to keep the score line down with great defensive work. The match finished 10-29 with Thurso now to play Wick High School after the October holidays.
Pupils selected in the Highland and Moray District Netball Squad
Thurso High School pupils Mia Bain and Demi Steedman were selected in the Highland and Moray District netball squad. Earlier in the month they travelled to Aberdeen to compete against a variety of different squads from across Scotland. The girls did really well and played vital roles in the Highland and Moray squad winning all their games. Both girls are now in training for their next tournament in Dundee in October.
Friday 29th September
THS pupils attended the North of Scotland Regional Qualifying Championships in Inverness. All pupils played extremely well showing excellent etiquette, effort and respect in representing the school and themselves with pride.

Lewis Gallagher + Mark McCoustra U16s boys’ runner up.
As a result, Thurso High has 4 players (Mark, Lewis, Will and Alan) qualifying for the National Championships in Perth in March in their respective events.
The day was rounded off with a well deserved KFC. Special thanks to our last minute replacement driver Mr Ford!
